Quite some time ago I found the above photo online which shows a child hugging a very creepy giant-sized Cookie Monster plush toy that was made by Knickerbocker in the late 1970's. (Unfortunately, I no longer know which website it's from, otherwise I would add the link.) From 1975 to the early 80's, Knickerbocker made a variety of Sesame Street characters as plush toys in many different sizes. These giant-sized versions, which must have been 4 or 5 feet tall, were among the rarest of the bunch. I don't know if these were actually made to be sold at retail or if they were only made available to toy stores as display pieces, in any case, this is one extremely creepy Cookie Monster!... I think it is awesome!!! LOL

Here is another photo of a giant-sized Cookie Monster by Knickerbocker, only this one isn't quite as big as the one shown in the first photo. This one is likely about 3 feet tall and its still just as creepy. (Unfortunately, I don't have a link for this photo either!) It appears as though this size was sold at retail as this one has a hang tag. Imagine this thing came to life and started walking toward you! LOL Nightmare fuel for sure! Forget about the monster under the bed, this one will stare at you from across the room!
There's just something creepy about these oversized plush toys, especially the biggest ones, that makes them such a bad idea, which is why I like them so much! They're just very odd and creepy and bizarre! I'm jealous of anyone who still has one of these, they're super rare to find! Basically, the bigger they are, the more scarce they become. I've never actually seen one of these giant Cookie Monsters in real life, only in photos, however I have seen a giant size Bert rag doll that was made by Knickerbocker. It must have been about 4 or 5 feet tall sitting down! A toy store at a shopping mall here in Ottawa, ON used to have it on display in their window. I wish that I had taken a photo of it!!!

Here are five of the Knickerbocker Cookie Monster plush toys in my collection. The biggest one I was able to find is 20 inches tall and I think it's very creepy. I really don't like being near it. The only way I can display it is to put other plush toys in front of it to make it seem less imposing. Otherwise he stays in a large bag in my closet! LOL Yet, I could never part with him! He's just too awesome and creepy! LOLThe size of the plush toys shown above, left to right, are 20 inch , 17 inch, 15.5 inch, 12.5 inch, and the smallest is an 8 inch plush. All of them have beads inside their eyes to make a rattling sound.
If you have seen any of the 4 or 5 foot tall, giant sized Knickerbocker plush toys at any time in your life, I would love to hear about it! If you own one of them or know someone who does, I'd be happy to hear if any of these giant plush toys are still in existence as I suspect that by now they are all sadly quite extinct. So if you have any news to share about them, I'm leaving comments open on this post to allow Muppet fans to comment, discuss and share your thoughts about these very rare giant-sized Knickerbocker plush toys.
